Press Release Summary = English Heritage recently announced that The Vikings have successfully tendered for the re-enactment contract of 2006 - the major recreation of the Battle of Hastings to be performed at Battle Abbey, Sussex on 14-15th October.
Press Release Body = The Vikings will co-ordinate all aspects of the battle, ensuring that participants achieve high standards of authenticity and safety, and working with Alan Larsen, English Heritage cavalry co-ordinator, to mount up to 100 riders who will represent the elite Norman knights of William the Conqueror's army. Crafts and weaponry of the period will also be displayed in the Saxon and Norman encampments.
"It is our intention to make this the premier re-enactment event of the year in the whole of Europe, if not the world," says Viking Chieftain Tony Sayer, "We welcome anyone who wishes to participate, and who can achieve the required standards of safety and authenticity, to join us on Senlac Hill this October. Initial registration already suggests that over 2000 re-enactors may attend, with visitors expected from many countries, including the U.S., Australia and Russia".
